We are thrilled to announce that Highland Ophthalmology Associates offers Intense Pulse Light laser therapy, an innovative advancement in the treatment of meibomian gland disease (MGD) and ocular rosacea. This treatment is achieved with the E-Eye medical device (E-Swin USA) which is FDA cleared to treat rosacea. It generates Intense Regulated Pulsed Light by producing perfectly calibrated and homogeneously sequenced light pulses.
What Is IPL Therapy?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is an advanced, non-invasive treatment option for patients experiencing chronic dry eye symptoms related to meibomian gland dysfunction and ocular surface inflammation. Highland Ophthalmology is proud to offer this cutting-edge technology as part of our comprehensive approach to eye comfort and ocular surface health.
What to Expect During Treatment
IPL treatment with the E-Eye typically follows a standardized protocol:
-
Consultation and Evaluation – We assess your symptoms, tear film quality, and meibomian gland function to determine if IPL is right for you.
-
Preparation – Protective eye shields are placed and a light gel is applied to your skin.
-
Light Pulses Delivered – A series of gentle pulses are directed beneath the eyelids. A brief sequence is repeated for both eyes. Most patients describe the treatment as comfortable, not painful.
-
Aftercare – Patients often feel relief shortly after the session, with cumulative improvement over multiple treatments.
Most treatment plans involve 3–4 sessions spaced over several weeks with periodic maintenance as needed for long-term relief.
Who Is a Candidate for IPL?
Not all patients are suitable for IPL therapy (for example, certain skin types, medical conditions, or contraindications may apply); our doctors will evaluate your individual case during your consultation.
Is IPL Covered by Insurance?
IPL therapy for dry eye/MGD is often considered an elective treatment and may not be covered by insurance. Our team will discuss costs and options with you before your first session.
